Lake Las Vegas home inspector reveals structural roof damage
This is a great example of why you need a home inspection in Lake Las Vegas or any other city in Nevada. Sometimes even the most well constructed homes can hide some not so little surprises. Roof trusses are a good example. Roof trusses are structural systems, engineered and designed to support the homes roof structure including the framing and covering. In light frame construction (such is the case in most residential construction), truss systems are made of wood timber. Sometimes during construction a truss can be damaged, most often it's the result of a careless contractor. Your Lake Las Vegas home inspector has seen roof trusses cut off in order to allow space for an attic mounted forced air unit (furnace/AC). Other times it's a homeowner wanting to add storage space. On rare occasions, a damaged truss can be the result of improper spanning or sizing of the support framing for the roof. In any case, the first thing that needs to be determined is why did the truss fails; this can not always be ascertained during a home inspection because as a home inspector I see the end result and have no knowledge of the resoning behind the alteration. The question that arise are: was it accidental, was it the result of a careless workmanship, or, was it a structural design failure?
