FBI is asked to join investigation of Vermillion and her former charity
The Nevada attorney general’s office has asked the FBI to assist in its investigation of the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, whose founder was let go by the charity’s board last week. Sources close to the charity said the FBI was asked to join, in part, because the charity receives grants from local and federal agencies.
Henderson’s online complaint service growing, getting high marks from users
The click of a mouse is bringing about faster responses to complaints and questions brought to the attention of city hall, users of Henderson’s 24/7 online portal and city officials say. Since the inception four years ago of the Contact Henderson portal, the city has resolved about 98 percent of the more than 95,000 cases it has received.
Green Valley boys more than a one-player show in victory against Silverado
With less than a minute remaining in Friday’s basketball game, Green Valley High senior guard Durrell McDonald dribbled past the full court press of defenders from visiting Silverado High and found himself in the clear on the fast break. Instead of continuing for what would have been an easy two points, the guard riffled a perfect pass to teammate Devan Kohn near the basket. Kohn easily converted the layup, putting on the final touches in Green Valley’s 71-58 victory.

The Henderson City Council chose the safe route Monday night by appointing planning commissioner John Marz to fill the empty Ward 3 seat vacated by Kathleen Vermillion until the general election next year. Marz, who has a long history as a business owner and marketing executive in the valley, said during his interview Monday that he would serve as a “caretaker” for the year and a half before the 2013 election.

Man shot by Henderson police arraigned on felony charges
A man who had been recovering in the hospital for about three weeks after having been shot by Henderson police in late December was arraigned on assault and weapons charges Monday morning in Henderson Justice Court. Tony McNeill, 54, who faces felony charges for pointing a rifle at officers, appeared before Justice of the Peace David Gibson Sr., who asked him if he understood the charges and could afford to hire an attorney.
