Debate rages on after Carlos Condit slips past Nick Diaz at UFC 143

14 hours 16 min ago
Carlos Condit walked to the center of the octagon after UFC 143 with no apprehension regarding the judges’ scores he was about to hear. Condit thought he beat up Nick Diaz for 25 minutes in Saturday night’s main event and couldn’t imagine the scorecards reading any other way. They didn’t. The three judges unanimously sided with Condit — by scores of 49-46, 49-46, 48-47 — to give him a decision victory over Diaz for the UFC interim welterweight championship.

Economic woes, anti-Obama sentiment fail to draw large turnout

17 hours 39 min ago
Mitt Romney’s easy victory in Nevada’s Republican presidential caucuses might, in the long run, be less important than the fact that a surprising number of Republicans who could have participated Saturday chose to stay home.

How Romney won Nevada again

18 hours 24 min ago
Mitt Romney cruised to an easy victory in the Nevada Republican presidential caucuses Saturday by relying on a campaign organization he spent four years building and carefully maintaining. That organization became a firewall of sorts that allowed him to fend off a series of threats from Republican rivals who surged in popularity, including picking up victories in early states, but had no similar turnout machine to fallback on in Nevada.

Quintrell Thomas leads UNLV with a season-high 15 points in loss at Wyoming

Sun, 02/05/2012 - 03:40
Quintrell Thomas’ season-high 15 points in Saturday’s 68-66 loss at Wyoming was just the most obvious example of the nice run he’s been putting together recently. Against the Cowboys, Thomas, a junior forward, scored a team-high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 5-for-6 at the free-throw line in 19 minutes. In the final seconds, he also corralled an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Mike Moser for a last-second attempt to tie the game.

As many as four of the five rounds in the interim welterweight championship bout had no clear victor.

Sat, 02/04/2012 - 10:05
Chris Swanson was fouled hard on an aggressive drive the rim in the third quarter Friday night, being knocked to the floor and landing with a loud thud several in the gymnasium could hear.
