The Basic Wolves outmuscled the smaller Eagles 41-7 at Basic on Friday.

The Wolves used their size to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

JAQUELINE MC WHORTER

Nov. 27, 1930 – Aug. 28, 2010

Jaqueline M. Mc Whorter, 79, a homemaker, of Boulder City, passed away Aug. 28.

She was born Nov. 27, 1930, in Long Beach, Calif., and was a 35-year resident of Nevada.

Throughout the years, Jackie was very active with Boulder City community.

She was president of the Ho and Grow Club, active with Grace Community Church, Senior Citizens Group of Boulder, Red Hat Society, Welcome Wagon and Lend-a-Hand.

She helped initiate the development of the original Boulder City Welcome sign.

She also frequently visited the terminally ill in hospitals and hospices in Boulder City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, of 61 years, Howard G. Mc Whorter; mother, Louise Wilkens; and son, Robert J. Mc Whorter.

She is survived by her son, Michael G. Mc Whorter and his wife, Jo Ann; daughters, Kathleen Bruington and Sandra Fraser and her husband, Michael Fraser; and grandchildren, Casey Bruington, Amy Divine, and Shelly and Mindy Mc Whorter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Faith Christian Church, 1100 Buchanan Blvd., in Boulder City. Graveside service will follow at noon at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

RUTH F. SNYDER

May 1, 1935 – August 22, 2010

Ruth F. Snyder, 75, of Boulder City, NV, died Sunday, Aug. 22 at her home.

A private service will be held in Boulder City on Sept. 4, followed by an open house at the home of her son Larry Snyder at 1805 Hilton Head Drive from 1 to 4 p.m.

A public memorial will be held in Shreve, Ohio, on Oct. 9 for all family and friends to honor Ruth’s life.

Ruth was born May 1, 1935, in Hazard, Ky., to George and Sidney (Wilkerson) Feltner and married Lloyd M Snyder on June 9, 1957, who preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2001.

Ruth relocated to Boulder City in 2003 to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

She owned and operated, with her husband, Snyder’s Shoe Store in Shreve for several years. Ruth and Lloyd (Junior) were active in Triway Music and Athletic Boosters for many years.

She was a member of Shreve Christian Church Disciples of Christ, Shreve Order of Eastern Star 496, Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem in Wooster.

Surviving are her four children, Sharon (Mike) Butler of Henderson, Larry (Cindy) Snyder of Boulder City, Jeff Snyder of Henderson, Bob (Allison) Snyder of Arvada, Colo.; grandchildren, Andrea Butler, Alison Brooks, Megan, Laurel, Noah, Nicholas, Samantha, Natalie, and Joseph Snyder; and great grandchildren, Skylee and Brenden Brooks.

Ruth was dearly loved by her family and friends. She had a heart for caring for others, cooking, baking and helping in any way she could.

Her cakes were amazing and she loved baking with her grandchildren. Her attic and garage were lined with cake pans with shelves filled with cook books. Her house glowed throughout the year, especially at Christmas. She will be dearly missed and we were blessed to have spent time with her.

A contribution to the American Heart Association can be made in her name in lieu of flowers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Boulder City Family Mortuary.

DIANA LEA YOUNG

August 26, 1948 – August 28, 2010

Diana Lea Young passed away on Aug. 28 in Las Vegas after a long illness. She was born in Las Vegas on Aug. 26, 1948, to Jay Tripp and Luanna Scott Tripp. She graduated from high school in Merrill, Ore., in 1966 and attended Marylhurst College in Portland. She married John L. Young from California and they had four sons, Michael John, Patrick Carl, Scott Alexander and Christopher James Young.

She worked many years as a loan escrow officer in California before retiring and moving back to Las Vegas. She was very active in St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Boulder City and she was a past regent of the Silver State Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her father Jay Tripp, husband John Young, son Michael Young, grandson Harley Young and granddaughter Alicia Young. Surviving family are mother and stepfather Luanna and Carl Mitchell; three sons, Patrick (Allison) Young, Scott (Terry) Young, Christopher (Alicia) Young; and seven grandchildren, Michael, Kristyn, Patrick, Garrett, Alexa, Chad, and Dylan Young; and one great-grandson Tyler Hortman.

She also had three sisters, Sharon Tripp Poe, Susan Mitchell (Michael) Stankovic, Carla Mitchell (Richard) Kraft; and two brothers, John (Robin) Mitchell, and James Tripp, with many nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Boulder City and a light lunch following the service.

VERNON M. ARASMITH

January 17, 1933 – August 20, 2010

Vernon M. Arasmith. 77, of Boulder City, died Friday, Aug. 20.

A memorial service was performed by the Boulder City Elks Lodge #1862 on Aug. 25.

Vernon entered this world Jan. 17, 1933, as the son of Jessie May and J.H. Arasmith of Jewell, Kan.

The youngest of five children, Vern spent his early years in and around Jewell, graduating from Jewell City High School in 1950.

In 1952 he, along with a good friend, joined the U.S. Navy. This was so he and his friend were in the same area except when they were back in Jewell after discharge in 1956.

In 1956 he enrolled in Casper College in Casper, Wyo., graduating with an associates of arts degree in civil engineering in 1958. He attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., in 1958.

On Aug. 29, 1959 he married Sally Joan Dorsett of Casper, Wyo. To this union were born four children, Vernon Michael (Mike), Patricia (Patti) Jean (Jeff) Wever, Catharine (Cathy) June (John) Cosman, and Karl Higby Arasmith.

Vern joined the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 1960 at first as a member of a survey crew working mostly on canal and railroad relocations in Kansas and Utah.

He move to Boulder City in 1966 to be part of the Northwest Southwest Intertie project office here.

In 1969 he joined the Hoover Dam crew as a stationary equipment operator Boulder City Water Division. He retired from the Dam in 1985 spending time working in various intervals in areas of employment in the private sector. During this time he spent many hours honing his skills as a gunsmith and his shooting skills, becoming proficient in these areas.

Vern was very involved in community affairs, particularly in the areas of youth. He served on the board of Boy Scout Troop 7 from many years being a coach for merit badges and instrumental in several camping expeditions. He was on the Board of Recreation and was a spark plug in the refurbishing of the van that became the sno-cone truck. He coached baseball and Pop Warner football teams. He was very vital to the 4-H rock hounding program.

He was always ready to talk and listen to his friends and always the youth.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, his four children, 11 grandsons and five great-grandchildren. His sixth is due in November.

LYLE KENNETH FRANCIS

August 28, 1938 – August 30, 2010

Lyle Kenneth Francis passed suddenly on Aug. 30 at age 72. He was born in Huntington,W.Va on Aug. 28, 1938, to Anne Followay and Audley Francis.

He worked as a barber over 52 years in which time he touched many peoples hearts. Lyle was a devoted, loving husband, best dad ever, great friend to all, he will be missed immensely.

He is survived by wife, Betty Francis, sons, Randall Francis and Keith Francis, and daughter Valerie Francis. He was also a proud grandpa of seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Sevices will take place at the Community Church of Henderson, 360 East Horizon Drive in Henderson on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 3 p.m.

Boulder City Review

Boulder City officials want the federal government to keep large commercial trucks from coming over the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge until the city’s own bypass is built.

The City Council this week forwarded a resolution asking the Nevada Department of Transportation to keep the trucks off the bridge by removing the Canamex trade corridor designation for the nearly six-mile portion of U.S. Highway 93 that runs through the city’s limits.

The Canamex corridor is a truck route running from Mexico City north to Edmonton, Alberta.

August 26 was probably the first and last time the six residents of Lakeview Terrace Senior Living Community had their home guarded by the Secret Service, but they can continue enjoying the benefits of the United States government, thanks to a government-backed loan that allowed the facility to be built.

To recognize the fruits of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program, U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., USDA Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan and Congresswoman Dina Titus, D-Nev., visited the new building at 180 Ville Drive for a private ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The guaranteed loan program provides government insurance for loans from private lenders to businesses in rural areas with populations of 50,000 or less so the lenders will be more willing to give loans in the current economic climate.

“This gives the necessary courage in a private downturn,” Merrigan said.
